Wishes

We open gifts on Christmas Eve with my in-laws. It’s been this way since I met my hubby 11 years ago, and it has never changed. And yet, as I search my house for a pen to label the gifts, I find myself wishing that we could just spend Christmas Eve at home watching “It’s a Wonderful Life” and drinking hot chocolate. There is something about having to get myself and SWHS dressed and ready for a 60 minute drive when all I want is to stay home.

But, I can’t. And it’s all for the best. SWHS will get to spend time with her cousins, and rip through wrapping paper, and more importantly, she will be able to spend yet another Christmas with her grandparents. And after all, no matter how lazy I would like to be, when we look back on this day, I will know that my daughter got to experience the family that I always wished for.

Merry Christmas!
