I Went to HS in NYC in the 1990’s

September 6th, 2008 | 2 Comments | Posted in General

I joined this group on Facebook after reconnecting with so many of my HS classmates. Someone posted a message on the group’s bulletin’s with the title: What Was Hot in the 1990’s and it made me think about what exactly I was doing as a HS student in the 90’s in NYC. Boy was it a fun time to be young and in the city. Below is my top 20 list (in no particular order) of things that were popular during this time:

  1. Jansport Bookbags
  2. The Ed, Lisa, and Dre Show: “What’s up ya’ll what you got to say? Whose on the phone with Ed, Lisa, and Dre.”
  3. Nice and Smooth: “Sometimes I rhyme slow, sometimes I rhyme quick. I was on 125 and St. Nick.”
  4. Snapple
  5. The Tunnel
  6. The Muse
  7. The Fever
  8. Skate Key
  9. Tagging
  10. Shell Top Adidas
  11. 40s and marijuana
  12. Jodeci
  13. Black Expo
  14. Thick, Long Box-Braids Extensions (Think Janet Jackson in Poetic Justice)
  15. The Dubee (sp?) Hair Style (girls wrapping their hair using big bobby pins)
  16. Central Park
  17. The American Diner
  18. Rukers Baskeball Games
  19. Denim Jackets
  20. The Village

What was popular during the decade that you were in HS? Please Share.
