I Went to HS in NYC in the 1990’s
I joined this group on Facebook after reconnecting with so many of my HS classmates. Someone posted a message on the group’s bulletin’s with the title: What Was Hot in the 1990’s and it made me think about what exactly I was doing as a HS student in the 90’s in NYC. Boy was it a fun time to be young and in the city. Below is my top 20 list (in no particular order) of things that were popular during this time:
- Jansport Bookbags
- The Ed, Lisa, and Dre Show: “What’s up ya’ll what you got to say? Whose on the phone with Ed, Lisa, and Dre.”
- Nice and Smooth: “Sometimes I rhyme slow, sometimes I rhyme quick. I was on 125 and St. Nick.”
- Snapple
- The Tunnel
- The Muse
- The Fever
- Skate Key
- Tagging
- Shell Top Adidas
- 40s and marijuana
- Jodeci
- Black Expo
- Thick, Long Box-Braids Extensions (Think Janet Jackson in Poetic Justice)
- The Dubee (sp?) Hair Style (girls wrapping their hair using big bobby pins)
- Central Park
- The American Diner
- Rukers Baskeball Games
- Denim Jackets
- The Village

Ditto - except I was in college at the time. The tunnel was hot when I was in highschool too.
